Dr. John Kwesi Assan, OD, FAAO, is a vibrant, result-oriented and passionate optometrist with the career goal of contributing to the provision of comprehensive eye care globally. He is a graduate of the University of Cape Coast, where he obtained his Doctor of Optometry degree in 2021. He had his mandatory post-graduation clinical internship in the same University, and worked at the University Eye Clinic and the Department of Optometry and Vision Science Eye Clinic. Dr. Assan also had the opportunity to serve as a teaching assistant, research assistant and clinical demonstrator at the Department of Optometry and Vision Sciences during his internship year.

Within a year after obtaining his Doctor of Optometry degree, Dr. Assan has risen to become a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry. Fellows of the Academy are distinguished professionals who must satisfy rigorous requirements before being accepted and conferred as Fellows. He is also a full member of the International Association of Contact Lens Educators, a member of the Tear Film and Ocular Society and member of the World Council of Optometry.

Dr. Assan is directly involved in the day-to-day management of Anidaso Eye Centre. He is also the clinical optometrist and clinical head. He has expertise in clinical optometry – refraction and dispensing of spectacles, contact lens assessment and fitting, general ocular health examination, pre and post-surgical care, binocular vision assessment and management, low vision assessment and management, operation and result interpretation of ZEISS Cirrus High-Definition Spectral-Domain Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) machine, operation and result interpretation of Humphrey’s Visual Field Analyzer, usage of anterior chamber and cornea external lenses in taking anterior segment scans including pachymetry and interpretation of results.

In addition, he is involved in public eye health education. He has often been invited to speak on radio, including Eagle FM, Sweet Melodies FM, Cape FM and ATL FM, all in Cape Coast. He is also a socially responsible person with a passion for community eye health screenings, where he usually volunteers as a team optometrist.
